Wetlands International Japan (WIJ) is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and the Japan office for the global organisation Wetlands International. WIJ works specially on Wetlands’ research, awareness-raising of the Ramsar Convention and implementation of its Wise Use concept of wetlands.
This website aims not only to provide you the overview of our organisation and activities, but is also to inform you what Wetlands International and the Ramsar Convention are about.

On July 25th, 2010, tidal flat observation seminar was carried out in Arita-river estury in Wakayama.
Arita river tidal flat observatory tour will be held on July 25th.
This event is open for anyone. In addition to annual observation, you may experience participatory survey (funded by Nippon Foundation) on tidal flat benthos.
June 5-6, Ecolife-fair was held in Yoyogi-park, Shibuya, Tokyo, hosted by the Ministry of Environment. This exhibition was organized jointly by the Ramsar Centre Japan and the Japanese Ministry of Environment. The booth aimed to raise awareness about the Ramsar Convention and wetland functions.
On May 30th, tidal flat observation trip was held in Wakanoura-tidal flat (Wakayama, Wakayama pprefecture).
Nippon foundation project “Education on Biodiversity based on citizen-based Tidal Flat Survey” aims to communicate its activity and result publicly. On July 4th, 2010, we participated in National Convention of citizen-based survey held by the Nature Conservation Society Japan.
On June 24th-25th, WIJ carried out an annual survey of Monitoring Sites 1000 in Bandzu tidal flat, which is known for its abundance in biodiversity.
WIJ has carried out the field trip in June 25-27th in Obitsu-gawa estuary, Kisarazdu, Chiba. Over 50 people participated in the event. The weather was very suitable for the field trip.
On June 11th-13th, a WIJ staff participated in the survey at Osaka-bay site (Osaka). Flash report of the result will be updated at web site of MoE biodiversity center soon.
